What is the Crests & Arms archive?

Crests & Arms is an independent initiative that began 25 years ago. The project exists to find every ancient coat of arms in old historical records, remake each one exactly as recorded, and keep it safe for future generations.

Every family crest in the archive is traced back to a named source, like Burke’s General Armory of 1884. When you order a copy, you get the record for your name, and you help keep the archive going.

★★★★★
I was worried it would be one of those made up crests. It isn’t. The wording on the certificate matches the Burke’s entry my uncle photocopied at the library years ago, word for word. Printed it for my dad’s 80th and it looks great. He went quiet, then hung it in the hall.

Bought the Irish line for my mom at Christmas. She cried (which I did not expect). The drawing is beautiful and the see-through file went straight onto our family-tree poster. One gripe: I had to message to work out which of the three countries was ours. Worth it.

The files were in my email right after I ordered. I took the one with the gold border to Walgreens, printed it letter size and put it in a $20 frame. A framing shop had quoted me $200!! for a generic crest off a template. This is the real record and looks so good!

Questions people ask

How long does delivery take?

Orders are typically dispatched within 1 to 3 working days, often within 24 hours Monday to Friday. Shipping is free.

Is it packed securely?

Yes. The frame is wrapped with corner protection and boxed in cardboard. The front is a clear shatterproof acrylic, not glass, so it travels well. In the unlikely event that anything arrives damaged, email us and we will put it right.

What exactly do I get?

One 11 × 14 in print of the arms on museum-quality matte paper, in a black ayous wood frame, with hanging hardware.

Is it ready to hang?

Yes. Hanging hardware is included, so it goes straight on the wall.

Is the front glass?

No. It is a clear acrylic sheet, the shatterproof kind used instead of glass in frames. It looks the same, weighs less and will not break if it is knocked.

What size is it?

The print is 11 × 14 in (28 × 35.5 cm). The frame is 0.75 in (1.9 cm) thick.

What is the paper?

Museum-quality matte paper, 189 gsm, printed with water-based inks. The arms in full colour from the record.

What is the frame made of?

Ayous wood from renewable forests, finished in black.

Can I get the digital file too?

Yes. The digital pack is listed just above and is sent by email within minutes of ordering.

Are the arms historically accurate?

Yes. They are drawn from the blazon recorded for the name in a named source, such as Burke’s General Armory of 1884. The record page shows the entry and where it comes from.
