The Tremblay family name originates from the historic region of Normandy in France. The name is derived from the French word tremble, which refers to the aspen tree. In the early seventeenth century, the family lived in the village of Randonnai, located in the Perche area of Normandy. Pierre Tremblay, the ancestor of the vast majority of people with this surname in North America, left this region to settle in New France. He arrived in the colony around 1647 and officially married Ozanne Achon in 1657. By 1663, Pierre and his family were well established in the settlement of Beaupré near Quebec City. Over the following generations, the family grew rapidly and spread across the Saint Lawrence River valley, eventually becoming one of the most numerous and well-documented families in Canadian history.
